Daz to Unreal – Fixing a Deformed Face

If you transfer an animation and the face looks deformed like this:

You need to set the Retarget Source Asset on the animation to a skeletal mesh that matches the shape of the character you used for the animation.

The Why

Facial Expressions in Daz Studio translate (move) the bones in the face. Because position data is part of the animation, Unreal needs to know what those positions are relative to.

An animation can play on characters with very different head shapes, so the starting position needs to be adjusted to match character the animation is playing on.
